Ireland game

On a positive I have got 50 tickets for the Ireland play off game - will talk about this after mid term

Please don't let this happen again!!!!

The bank of Ireland lady who came in the other day - I would imagine that she would not have been very impressed with our TY group. The majority of the group were excellent as always. However a small number were talking, rude and showed / displayed poor manners. I was disappointed with this. Mrs McDaid felt the same and some TY students who I spoke to felt that we as a group did not give a true reflection of how good a group we are. Remember we all have a responsibility to behave well. You all have a responsibility to the rest of the group. I am sure that I will not have to talk about this again.

Thanks

Shoe Box Appeal

A list of about 24 gave me their names - it will be happening after mid term break - Monday 9th Nov

All shoe boxes for the school must be in by the start of the first week back after mid-term

I think that it is only right that if u put your name down to help out in Letterkenny - which is great and thank you for that - then you must take in a show box for the school to be considered for Letterkenny

Hopefully everyone will be happy enough with that

I may still have to do a draw

Thanks again for getting involved - its a great cause so do your bit - and well done for getting involved

Speak to Miss McDonnell (she is in charge in school of shoe boxes) and maybe you could get more involved - maybe she could do with a hand - you could ask anyway

Musicial - massive well done

A massive well done to all involved in the musicial - be it on stage or back stage - a massive effort is going in from everyone so keep it up and a massive well done again to all

Printer - and printing!! - I am here to help!

Please note that all printing if possible should be done at home - or local libraries etc!

You also all have a computers class where u can print out anything u need to print - use that class wisely!!!

If you are really stuck after that - please see me and I will help you out - but this must be done during break time or lunch time - not during class

Thanks

Please remember that if there are any issues or problems with regard to materials/printing or anything else please let me know and as always I will do my best to sort it out

If there are issues please let me know - if I dont know then I cant sort them out!!

Art Materials - take note!!!

Please note - students are responsible for getting their own materials for homework, projects etc. Pupils are not permitted to take materials (eg card) from the Art room. These materials in the Art room are for Art projects only.

I have some materials down in my PE office that you are allowed to use if they are any use - please call down!!

Outside of that - If you are badly stuck please see me and I will help you out.

Thanks

Law - if u are interested - please read

Anyone interested in law. Please read below and give your name to myself if interested. We had someone who did it last year and they loved the experience.

Transition Year Programme – Please read this if you are interested in a
placement for Transition year  work experience with a Barrister
based at the Law Library, Four Courts, Dublin 7.

The Bar of Ireland launched a new transition year programme in February
2015.

The programme aims to encourage schools countrywide with a distinct
diversity of
pupils to apply to take part, particularly those who would otherwise have
no
access to the Bar.

In order to be fair, inclusive and transparent, all schools on the
Department of
Education database were invited to nominate one pupil per school to
participate
in the scheme. There was a lottery system for the selection of 100
successful
applicants and a small proportion of places were reserved for pupils from
DEIS
(Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) schools.

This new scheme – based on school applications only and a lottery for
places
will take place each year and the programme will run for one week in early
February.

During October, all secondary schools will be emailed informing them of
this new
programme hosted by The Bar of Ireland.

Schools may nominate one student from transition year up to 6th year,
should
they wish to do so.

The student (if successful in the lottery) will spend a week (Monday to
Friday)
based at the Law Library, Four Courts. He or she will be hosted by a number
of
junior barristers during the mornings of this week and each afternoon will
participate in a series of organised group activities and tours – such as a
visit to the Kings Inns, a talk from a Judge, visit to the Courts etc.
Arrangements for each students travel and accommodation are the
responsibility
of the school / guardian.

The Bar of Ireland reiterates that barristers may continue to make their
own
individual arrangements facilitating transition year students who wish to
shadow
them as part of their work experience – however no direct applications for
placements on the official programme, may be made by barristers, members of
the
judiciary, students, parents etc. Any private arrangement can take place
independent of The Bar of Ireland programme at a time that suits both
parties.

All applications in future for participation in The Bar of Irealnd scheme
must
emanate from the school and must be sent by email only to a dedicated email
address – details of which (including application form, deadline for
receipt of
applications, FAQs etc) will be sent to schools in September. No
applications
will be accepted in advance.

Pe for tomorrow and Tuesday - take note

At 1pm please go straight to changing rooms and get changed. Leave school at 115 sharp. Take lunch and eat it on the way.

Bring warm clothes and wet gear. Bring a back pack for a drink and some energy food. U can share a bag between a few. Bring a camera if u want. Please have old runners or walking boots if u have them.

No money required.
U can wear shorts if u want but this time of year - prob best with tracksuit - up to u though.

Thanks

Carlingford and Man Utd

Letters for anyone on Man Utd outside my PE office - please collect and get in asap

Carlingford - if you did not get one - they are outside my PE office - please collect - also take note that the trip runs from Tuesday 1st Dec until Thursday 3rd Dec - there is a little minor mistake on the letter - please correct this on letter - thanks

Surfing money

Some still owe me - get this paid asap

thanks

Money due - msg for all - take note

Please note that if there is money due or permission slips due on a certain date or by a certain date please make sure to have these in on time and at the appropriate time. Teachers will get fed up chasing you and therefore will organise less for u - this is just a heads up as I got a bit fed up last week chasing people for permission slips and money

If there are issues with money please speak to me and keep me informed as to when u are able to pay - no issue there! But if u have not spoken to me and u have not paid I will presume u have forgotten - and that's not good enough - have your stuff in on time. I do not want to embarrass anyone on the money side of things -if I have done already - I am sorry - it was not intentional

Please make it as easy as possible for teachers to organise things and also get their bills paid

Thanks

Ryan Toye and Dara Green

Please see me asap - thanks

Sorry - PE work for year

Sorry all

I do not use that google drive at all but when I logged into it tonight I seen a heap of requests from students with regard to the PE work - sorry about this - here it is just in case - the link going into the dropbox seems to be working as well - hope this is ok for you now

PE Work for Christmas and Summer

One page at least typed (full page of typing) on computer on your experiences in PE in TY to date. List the activities, describe the activities and give some reasons on what you liked and what you disliked (if any). Give some information on what you did and where you went. Give as much information as possible. Name your favourite activity and put in photographs (see important point below). Anything different will get you more marks. Include something that stands out. Make it interesting to read. Make it a personal account (include any funny stories) – what did you get out of it? Did you like it? Include Bundoran/Gartan and Celtic trips. The more you include the better. It is important to note that participation will play an important part in your grade in PE. Please put your name on your work and staple or put in a plastic envelope. Read over your work and remember to do a spell check.
Grading system in TY is as follows:
1 = Excellent               2 = Very Good            3 = Good                     4 = Fair                        5 = Poor
Points:
  • Work not typed = down a grade
  • Poor participation in PE = down a grade (miss 4 classes = down one grade, miss 5 classes = down two grades, miss 6 classes down 3 grades and miss more than 6 classes = Poor (Being excused counts as missing PE). If you miss any of the main activities you may be marked down. This will be marked on your report.
  • Short = down a grade (one page typed – We will make a decision on this!)
  • Effort not good enough in PE = down a grade (not good enough just to have your gear – you must put in the effort as well)
  • Behaviour not good in PE – down a grade
  • No Photographs – down a grade – photos must include yourself taking part in one of the activities
If you forget your gear (I’m sure there will be no-one!) then this counts as a missed class . . . even though you will be taking part in your uniform!
1st Piece of work is from Summer to Christmas and 2nd piece is from Christmas to Summer
The following dates may change – we will let you know if they do.
Date that it has to be handed in at Christmas - Tuesday PE class = Tuesday 17th November and Thursday PE class = Thursday 19th November 2015
Date that it has to be handed in at Summer - Tuesday PE class = Tuesday 3rd May  and Thursday PE class = Thursday 5th May 2016
Please note – 2nd term of work continues on from where the first term finished

Late work will be marked down – no excuses – you have plenty of notice!
If you do not happen to be in for some reason please email to me mrdohertyloretoschool@yahoo.ie making sure that it arrives on time (by 3.45pm on the day it is due) Please note YOU CAN ONLY EMAIL IT IF YOU ARE NOT AT SCHOOL ON THAT DAY. Please make sure that you have the work saved using the correct format (Microsoft Word 2003) if you intend to print it at school. There is a way of doing this using emails – please just ask!

1 day late = Down 1 grade  2 days late = down 2 grades  3 days late = down 3 grades.  After 3 days it will not be marked Note – Weekend counts as 1 day and long weekend counts as 2 days – If the school is open that counts as a day. Only a doctor’s note will excuse you. This must be handed in on the first day back at school. We will then work out a suitable schedule for the work to be handed in.

It is easy to get a good mark in PE. Have your gear, try your best, enjoy the experiences and have a go at everything – no excuses!!! And produce your work when it is due in. We will try to make PE as interesting as possible and we will try to include as many different activities as possible but it is important that we work together on it.

Enjoy the year and best of luck

Google maps

Forgot to say

Please download google maps - just in case for Dublin tomorrow nite

Thanks

Tomorrow - please take note and pass on - urgent!!!! Urgent

First of all this I would add that I have tried and tried to get extra tickets for the game - however i have not been able to - I had two options - take the group to the game or take everyone and find something else to do within the same budget as the price of the match ticket (that is 10 euro) - I tried shows and ice skating - shows worked out too dear (didn't want to ask u for more money) and ice skating not open - cinema was the next best option at a reasonable price! I did try to get something else!
I decided to take everyone so that at least everyone had a day out - this involved a lot more organising and time on my part - but I didn't mind doing this as long as all our Ty's had a fun filled day out, The only reason that I said 'I would hold it against you' was because I just wanted everyone to go - I just wanted everyone to buy into the whole day out! And I do feel that just because you didn't get a ticket (and I know that students are disappointed because they didn't get one - I understand that!) - I just feel that its poor form to decide then not to go!

However due to some students feeling very unhappy and parents/guardians concerns (I am disappointed about this to be honest!!!!) - I have now decided to allow those who do not wish to go to the cinema to stay at home - this is now your decision. Its up to you. You will get your 20 euro back. Please email me asap if you decide that you are not going - email is mrdohertyloretoschool@yahoo.ie - thanks

For everyone else
Permission slips and money in please
Surfing money in please - all stuff will be collected in canteen after reg
Mobile phones charged up and have YOUR number
The cinema bus will be arriving back earlier - prob around 12 or 1230am
The other bus at time on the letter

Massive thanks to the Sean and Rory for all the help today - massive thanks lads!! Really appreciate it

See you all tomorrow for a great day out

Tuesday, 6 October 2015

Well done / Money owed / plans for thursday

Well done today (on the 5km) - especially to the PE class in the afternoon - the people on the beach covered a total of 9km today (some a bit quicker than others!!!!!!!!!!) - but we are looking at this as a real positive so a massive well done to all TYs today - during PE and on the 5km

One little negative - a number of people owe money for surfing and surfing is now finished - if there is an issue let me know - but otherwise get that money in tomorrow - no more excuses!!!!! I have people that I need to pay!

Reg class as normal on thursday and then meet in the canteen after reg - no uniform required - green if possible to be worn - please bring plenty of warm clothes. Will be cold in the evening time. Please have mobiles charged and have credit in them.

If u have not paid for Ireland game - OBVIOUSLY this has to be paid tomorrow along with permission slip!!

Monday, 5 October 2015

Really really sorry!!!! No ice skating

I am really sorry about this but I was given the idea about ice skating and I wanted your views on it first - that's why I asked u - but then when I looked into it - a lot of the places are not open yet and wont be for another few weeks - I am sorry about that - but its back to the cinema - going to see the Everest

It will still be a great day out!!!

Thursday - permission slip and money

Please make sue that all permission slips and money are in by tomorrow (Tuesday) - if there are any issues please see me - otherwise have this all in - thanks

I actually had 4 extra tickets as things turned out - a few students helped me to do the draw

the 4 names are
Oisin Ahearne
Amy O'Donnell
Matthew Geever
Rory Gallagher

These students now have a ticket for the game on Thursday

Thanks

Sunday, 4 October 2015

2 extra tickets!!!!!!!!!!!e

I have got my hand on two extra tickets.

Anyone due to go to the cinema please WITH YOUR TEACHERS PERMISSION meet me at 910(after reg) tomorrow morning in my office in the practical corridor - top of practical corridor -

Thursday, 1 October 2015

Msg from Mr Scott. Very impressed - well done!

Hi folks,
Just an update on attendance. Attendance has been really good for the month of September. There are a few issues with punctuality for registration , I've met a few and will discuss with others at the start of next week. Persistent lateness will Merit a strike.
The good news is for September
N Odhran had a 95% Attendance rate ,  14 students had full attendance.
N Oisin had a 97 % attendance rate, 9 students had full attendance.
N Oliver had a 97 % attendance rate, 13 students had full attendance.
N Orla had a 98% attendance rate, 15 students had full attendance.
Well done Orla's. I visited N Orla's Reg this morning with a reward for them.
I also held a draw for the students with full attendance and No lates to registration. Patrick Page won a voucher for century Cinemas.
I have sent this information to Mrs O 'Connor, and your registration teachers, it's also on the window of my office.
On another positive note for the month of September , not one strike has been accrued. Keep up the good work and watch the punctuality. I'm looking forward to the Dublin trip next week, it's always a great day out.
Mr Scott

Well done on the above. Keep it up now. Excellent all round. Mr D
